Set up your first application

Use one record per opportunity so the posting, next action, and resume version stay together. Here is a practical starting workflow.

  1. Add the company and role, then save the posting URL and job description while they are still available.
  2. Use Saved for an opportunity you are considering and Preparing while you tailor your materials. Link the resume or checkpoint you intend to submit.
  3. After you submit through the employer's application process, move the record to Applied. Check the submitted resume snapshot so you know which version the record preserves.
  4. Record a concrete next action and due date, such as preparing for an interview. Update the timeline when you hear back and record the eventual outcome.
  5. Download a JSON backup regularly. Browser storage is local to this browser profile and can be lost if you clear site data; a CSV is useful for a spreadsheet but is not the complete backup.

Example: keep two applications separate

Suppose you apply for a product analyst role at Example Labs and a reporting analyst role at Sample Studio. Create two records, save the respective job descriptions, and link the tailored resume for each before marking it Applied. These are fictional companies used to illustrate the workflow.

When Example Labs invites you to interview, update that record and add the interview details. Sample Studio can remain Applied while you wait. Editing your working resume afterward does not rewrite the submitted snapshot attached to either application.

A job tracker without another account

A job search contains sensitive details: where you applied, what a company offered, private notes, recruiter contacts, and the resume tailored for each role. Most online trackers attach that history to a cloud account. PrivaCV keeps the working database in your browser instead.

Open the tracker and start adding applications without an email address. Search and filter the pipeline, drag cards between stages, record next actions, and inspect the full activity timeline. Your data remains on the device unless you deliberately download a backup.

Connect each application to the resume behind it

Resume tailoring only helps when you can remember which version went to which company. PrivaCV connects its resume editor and application tracker locally. Choose a current draft or named checkpoint for an opportunity, and the tracker captures a frozen copy when the status reaches Applied.

That submitted snapshot does not change when you continue editing the original resume. Months later, you can still see the label and timeline associated with the application while your current resume keeps evolving.

Data, backups, and workflow

Is the PrivaCV job application tracker free?
Yes. The board, list, follow-up dates, resume links, backups, CSV export, and Sankey image export are free, with no account or trial.
Where is my job-search data stored?
Applications, notes, job descriptions, timeline events, and submitted-resume snapshots are stored in IndexedDB in your browser. PrivaCV does not upload them to a PrivaCV account or server.
Can I track which resume I used for each application?
Yes. Attach a current resume or saved checkpoint. When an application reaches Applied, PrivaCV captures an immutable local snapshot of that submitted version.
Can I export or back up my applications?
Yes. Download a CSV for a spreadsheet or a complete JSON backup containing applications, events, job descriptions, and resume snapshots.
Does the tracker apply to jobs automatically?
No. PrivaCV is a private organizer, not an auto-apply service. You add opportunities and update their stages yourself, keeping you in control of every application.
